HISTORY OF THE ESTATE

Just a few lines to present our winery and production.
Our family have been making wine in the BEAUJOLAIS (South Burgundy) area for three generations and currently my brother Pierre and I run the business.

The vineyard in ODENAS was set up in 1951 by our father, Benoit TRICHARD. At that time it only produced BROUILLY and COTE DE BROUILLY. In 1964, we moved to where we are now and in 1968 he acquired a vineyard 18 kilometres away in the MOULIN A VENT area and sold off part of our COTE DE BROUILLY.

On November 15th 1990 my brother and I took over the day to day operations and in May 1993 started to market our Marc de Bourgogne spirits range.

The total area of our vineyard is now 15.00 hectares where we produce wines with three different appellations :

-        6.50 hectares of MOULIN A VENT

-        6.00 hectares of BROUILLY and COTE DE BROUILLY

-        2.00 hectares of BEAUJOLAIS

In total we produce 800 hectolitres of wine per year with an average yield of 50 hectolitres per hectare. We sell some of our product in bulk to wholesalers and the other part in bottles in France and abroad. Across all the appellations we sell approximately 70,000 bottles per vintage - roughly 70% of our production.

Our wines fall into three categories - for immediate drinking, laying down for the medium term and laying down for the long term.

All our grapes are picked by hand and the wine is made in temperature-controlled conditions from bunches of grapes.

To respect local authenticity, fermentation is spontaneously induced by the yeasts in the bloom on the grapes.

Fermentation periods:

-        10 to 12 days in the vats for the Moulin à Vent at a constant temperature of 28°C
-        8 to 10 days in the vats at a constant temperature of 26°C for laying down quality Côte de Brouilly, Brouilly and Beaujolais
-        4 to 5 days in closed vats and total anaerobic conditions at constantly reducing temperatures from 30° to 18°C for Beaujolais Nouveau.

Moulin à Vent wines are all stored in oak barrels. Part of the our production is stored in new Allier oak barrels.

Before conditioning, wines are filtered on diatoma and membrane filters.

The wine is bottled in new bottles which have been rinsed in water before filling to eliminate dust and particles which could accidentally be inside.

Bottles are filled under vacuum. We only use top quality corks. After filling, bottles are stood upright for several minutes to ensure that the corks swell to their initial diameter. The bottles are then stacked horizontally in the dark in an air conditioned cellar

The batch numbers ink jet printed on labels during handling are rigorously the same for the whole batch.

All the precautions and extreme care we take have built the reputation of our products. Every year we win medals in a wide range of national competitions

We would be delighted to see you at our vineyard. In that way you could see for yourself how reliable we are as suppliers and judge the quality of our exceptional wines

Best regards

Michel & Pierre TRICHARD
